Man Constructs an Easy DIY Self-Watering Garden for Only $25

TikToker @yaboywy shared his genius yet surprisingly easy to build self-watering garden with us, and the best part, it only cost under $25. 

With a self-watering garden, you surely get the best of both worlds, a fun and relaxing vacation, and a garden that's thieving, growing, and blooming back at home waiting for you.

His DIY is super simple and the video acts as a perfect tutorial, but we’ll break the steps down below.

1. Material list:

• Storage tote: $12
• Razor (to cut the lid and drainage hole): $3
• • Bricks x5: $3
  • One-foot section of PVC pipe: $2
  • One yard of burlap: $4
• After gathering all the materials, the man lays the bricks on their sides, so they are standing taller but still stable on the bottom of his plastic tote, one in each corner and the middle. He then cuts out the plastic lid to a size that fits on top of the bricks inside the bin leaving a corner section notched out for the PVC pipe. He then cuts drainage holes all over the lid inside the tote.
• The man then sticks the PCV pipe into the notched corner, which will be the spout for pouring water into. He drills an overflow drainage hole just above the lid section.
• The bottom- on top of the lid- gets covered in a couple of layers of burlap so dirt doesn't fall into the holes and water reservoir. Dirt gets placed in and it's time for gardening!

Planning on going out of town? Fill up the PVC pipe and water basin with water and it should last a few days or even up to a week depending on the temperature!
